Week 19, Assignment 19

Project Development

Video - Week Nineteen, Lecture Nineteen

What is the deadline? How much time do I have left?

From this assignment onwards I only have left with less than a week time in hand to fully complete my Final Project, My presentation is Final Projects presentation has been scheduled on 16th June, 2017. I have mostly left with only Electronics things so in this coming days I will complete it and start working on the Presentation Slide and Final Video of the machine.

What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

The Prototype for my project Pineapple De-Sheller is under process and will be completed in coming 2 days with testing, currently the Prototype needs to be connected with all Electronics Circuits, Components, etc. for its automation. What is ready:

• 3D Design

• Designs in various formats for each machine going to be used

• Acrylic Frame

• Micro-Controller Board with Atmega 328P

• Motor Selection

• Cutter Blade Arrangement

Following things are remaining:

• Programming of the Micro-Controller Board

• Programming of the Motors through Micro-Controller Board

• Guide ways for the Bed where Pineapple will be mounted

• Attaching the Motors to the Frame

• Testing the full assembly

How will I complete the remaining tasks in time?

Mostly mine only electronics part is left out, so I am planning to schedule all the tasks remaining so that it could get completed in coming 4 days, so that at least I could get 1 full day for preparing the Presentation Slide and the Final Video of the Project. So accordingly I am planning to work on the Microcontroller for the 1 full day and complete the Programming part. Then on other 2 days will be completing the assembly step by step with testing each thing assembled. Finally then on the fourth day will start the testing and documentation of the Final Project.

What has worked? What hasn't?

I had a number of ideas to come up with for this projects completion but due to the lack of time and resources I skipped so and went for a simple Mechanism to just show the Proof of Concept of the De-Sheller and come up with a good learning of all the skills involved in it. So basically as I am from Mechanical Engineering background whatever I have done in my project until now was not that tough for me, but all the upcoming things which is Electronics parts and all will be quite challenging for me to attempt, but thanks to this course I have learned a lot about it during this and will implement it all for the completion with some help of people around.

What questions need to be resolved?

There are few questions I am looking for to be answered, few are mentioned below:

• How to make my Project into a Commercial Product?

• How easy can I make it for people to use it with more feasibility and interest?

What have you learned?

I am from Mechanical background and was willing to explore other fields like electronics, computer, and digital fabrication world. So, the problem of peeling/de-shelling the pineapple seemed a good idea to involve everything in. During the project I learned about electronics in depth, all about Microcontroller, Programming, etc. Plus noting down and setting my assumptions and timeline while documenting helps a lot. Whenever I go wrong I could go back through this documents and get a clear idea of what went wrong and it feels much easier for correcting all of them, it's quite stress free and easy to track all the errors occured.

How much time will cost(or had cost) for each process?

In total, time spent for each process is described below:

• Idea Finalization took almost 2-3 weeks. I started with some idea and then as per the time availability and resources constraint.

• Designing: Designing the Cad model took around 3 weeks in total, as I went through various Iterations of the Design as per the changes.

• Finalization of Processes in Final Project: To finalize the processes according to the design took 1 week, so that most of the academy process can be covered in the Project

• Electronics Design: For completing the Electronics Circuit for the final project took me around 2 weeks and half, as I am not that fast in that.

• Electronics Board: Later Completely soldering the board, programming and setting it up to work properly took me around 3 weeks.

• Laser Cutting & Assembly: Laser Cutting the sheets and Assembling the structure took 2 whole day to complete.

• 3D Printing: 3D Printing parts for Project took 3 whole day, as the parts which I printed were in full resolution with 100% fill density.

• Full Assembly: Assembling the machine with all the laser cut, 3d print parts, electronis circuits, etc took around 1 week to finish it with the working of the machine.

• Testing and Video: Testing and making the Video of the machine took 1 day with all final touch up's in the machine.
